Robo-Dog – Background and Interventions

Robo-Dog can be challenging.  In Robo-Dog, your child must listen to a target word, then click the picture that represents the target word. In this way, vocabulary, auditory word recognition, phonological accuracy, and phonological fluency are improved.

Here are two ideas:

  • Review this list of sample words with your child – Robo-Dog Word List
  • Click into help mode to make it easier to get started

Sample Word List

This exercise works on fundamental language processing by presenting similar-sounding words.  Giving your child a chance to review these words does not impact the efficacy of the program, and it can build confidence at the outset.

Click into Help Mode

Notice there is the Help button (?) to activate help mode. A question mark inside the planet indicates that help is on. When help is on, the program pronounces the word for each picture and briefly displays the picture on the screen before each trial is presented. This allows your child to review the vocabulary before the actual trial starts. Help remains active until it is turned off by clicking the Help (?) button again, or until all of the trials in the current group have been completed.

We recommend using help mode if your child is having difficulty. However, please not that correct responses in help mode do not count toward advancement in the exercise.

So once your child is doing better in help mode, be sure to turn it off.
